Confronting A Charge Of Domestic Violence

Every story has two sides, and we will believe your version of events. We work hard to show that the alleged victim is fabricating or exaggerating the allegations, and create a reasonable doubt in the minds of the prosecutor, judge and jury. We also work with counseling experts if the client can benefit from treatment in order to show that an act of poor judgment was a one-time event that is unlikely to be repeated.

We defend clients throughout Massachusetts against domestic violence charges.

A Domestic Violence Conviction Has Serious Consequences

Domestic violence is a common charge in Massachusetts and can arise from an allegation of assault, battery, forced sexual relations, stalking or harassment between people in a domestic relationship.

A domestic relationship can be found between current or former spouses, current or former members of the same household, people who have children together, persons who are dating or formerly dated, or are related by blood or marriage.

If convicted, the consequences are severe.

Misdemeanor domestic violence charges are punishable by up to 30 months in prison and fines up to $1,000. You have to complete a court-ordered anger management program with dozens of sessions over many months. You will have a permanent criminal record. It can adversely affect you in your employment, housing and higher education, not to mention how co-workers, relatives, neighbors and the police will view you.

You can also be charged with felonies if the alleged victim suffered serious injuries, is a senior citizen or was pregnant at the time of the incident. The consequences of a conviction can be even more serious – up to 15 years in prison.
