The News In The Firm

Attorney J. W. Carney, Jr. recently prevailed in a week-long jury trial. The client was charged in federal court with various offenses relating to child pornography. The client was found not guilty of the most serious charge, production of child pornography.

Attorney Carney recently negotiated a favorable result for a client on a drug case in federal court in Boston. The client was initially charged with a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years and faced even more prison time if convicted at trial. Attorney Carney successfully convinced the prosecution to reduce the charge against the client so that the client would not be subject to a mandatory minimum sentence.

Attorney Carney was able to reach a favorable result for another client on a drug case in state district court. The client was originally facing a mandatory minimum sentence based on a so-called "school zone" drug violation. That charged was eventually dismissed. Attorney Carney prepared a lengthy sentencing memo with which he was able to persuade the judge to grant the client a continuation without a finding, meaning that the client received probation without the entry of a criminal conviction.

Attorney Carney recently represented a witness in the ongoing trial of three former high-level officials in the Massachusetts Probation Department.
