Prior to joining J.W. Carney & Associates, Rebecca worked as a Trial Attorney  in the Criminal Defense Practice of the Bronx Defenders. As a public defender in the Bronx she represented hundreds of clients facing felony and misdemeanor charges. She obtained acquittals or dismissals of a wide range of charges, including narcotics possession and sale, assault, robbery, and firearms. She also negotiated favorable dispositions, some non-criminal, on behalf of clients who elected to plead guilty or who were convicted at trial. After several years in the Bronx, Rebecca moved to Boston and joined Fick & Marx, LLP, a boutique criminal defense firm where she worked on a variety of cases including federal criminal cases and appeals, and civil rights litigation.

Rebecca received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2015. While at Harvard, Rebecca was active in student organizations and clinics. She represented clients charged with crimes in Roxbury District Court as a student attorney with the Criminal Justice Institute, interned at the Massachusetts ACLU and was a member of the Harvard Defenders where she defended clients at show-cause hearings. She was an editor of Unbound: Harvard Journal of the Legal Left and she co-founded the Harvard Law School Feminist Collective.
