Boston Defense Attorneys For Drug Distribution And Trafficking Charges

Drug trafficking and distribution are serious felony offenses in Massachusetts — with equally serious punishments. If convicted of drug trafficking, you will be branded as a convicted felon for life. Even after serving your mandatory prison term and paying your fines, your criminal record will make it hard, if not impossible, to find a job or secure housing. If you had plans to attend college or graduate school, or work in the medical profession, you can forget about it.

The only way to avoid these consequences is to hire experienced defense lawyers who will fight to defeat your charges and fight to protect your future. At Carney, Gaudet & Carney, that is exactly what we do.

Located in Boston, our firm provides individuals throughout the state with strong, effective defense against drug distribution and trafficking charges. Our team of attorneys uses a combination of innovative and trusted legal strategies to get our clients’ charges dismissed or reduced, to negotiate plea deals or to secure “not guilty” verdicts at trial.

Massachusetts Takes A Hard Stance Against Drug Crimes

In Massachusetts, you can be charged with drug trafficking and distribution if you are found in possession of a certain amount and type of controlled substances, or if you are found with drugs and paraphernalia that can be used to distribute drugs.

The consequences of a conviction depend on the type and amount of drug involved. For example, trafficking in marijuana can result in anywhere from two-and-a-half years to 15 years in state prison. Trafficking in cocaine can result in anywhere from three to 20 years in prison, and trafficking in heroin carries a prison term of anywhere from five to 20 years in prison. You will be required to serve at least a portion of your sentence before becoming eligible for parole, if parole is an option.

By Sharing Your Past, We Make Sure You Have A Future

At Carney, Gaudet & Carney, we want to know your life story. Why? So we can make sure prosecutors, judges and juries know your background. By sharing personal information about your life we make sure they see you as a person, not a case file. We find this approach often results in better outcomes for our clients.

Case Result

Possession of a Class B Substance
Result: Plea Offer resulting in dismissal of charge

Our client, a graduate student in a prominent PhD program, was charged in Malden District Court with possession of a class B substance, specifically cocaine. Attorneys from Carney, Gaudet & Carney presented a detailed letter to the District Attorney’s office about our client and negotiated a favorable plea placing our client on pre-trial probation for one year. Our client successfully completed his pretrial probation and his charges were dismissed. As a result, our client was able to maintain his financial aid for graduate school.
